got the ol girl airborne the other day.
« on: April 14, 2010, 02:07:26 PM »

found a steep road over railroad tracks and may have gunned it more than I planned. My buddy riding with me said I got about 6". Can anyone else join my new air club or am I in my own group of stupidity?

Just ride Bay Area Blvd sometime and you will catch air on a regular basis... Almost dumped my passeger one day going over one of the many bumps/humps in the road.

59 S/B through Kingwood; did better than that at 85 trying to catch up to Marigold. Those 440 HDs are a little stiff for my hummingbird a$$ (not so hummingbird any more; I hit 190 on the scales awhile back).

the sticks of alvin have some steep railroad crossings. 45 deg. or so. I was probably doin 30 and did sort of a see saw over them. It was all fun and games till I landed and got the front end wobble, thats when my hind end tighted a bit. I didnt realize it came off the ground till the guy riding with me said so. I think it's somethin everyone should try once!

According to my wife, I've done a wheelie on my VTX1800. Could have fooled me. I thought the rear end had just squatted some and thought "Hey, cool. good traction." and gunned it some more. It wasn't until she pulled up next to me at the next light that I learned the front tire came off the ground. And I missed it. LOL.

I don't care what other people think. They don't do it very often!
Of Course it's dirty. It's hard to clean when the tires keep moving.

Only time for me was back in the late 80's.
Las Colinas (Irving) at a place called California
Crossing. There is a rail road track that has a
decent incline up both sides. Was going maybe
60 (ish) and went sailing for a nice little distance.
I did not even know I left the ground. It was that
smooth. A fellow rider told me I had some pretty
impressive air time. I was riding a 84 Virago.

Now, if we talk dual-sport bikes.........

:redcard: Last year after the Coloradical and after my back surgery.  I road north, on the way down out of the Big Horn Mt I hit a very bad freeze hump on the Goldwing. I am not sure about air time, but the landing was better than the take off! It jambed and compressed me very hard and broke loose some of my baggage!!!  I did NOT see it comming!!!    Ride safe ride long? :goldwing:

I caught some air about a year ago riding FM 4 in Santo, TX on a railroad crossing- saw one of the yellow caution signs showing a trailer high-centered over the tracks and I figured 'what the hey' and gunned it. My riding buddy says I got between 9" and 1' of clear air underneath my rear tire...

Highly recommend FM 4 for those of you who haven't ridden it yet: http://tinyurl.com/y4defvy
