what do you polish your chrome with?
« on: April 13, 2010, 08:20:59 PM »

Just wondering what everyone uses. I've always used Mother's metal polish but I don't do it as often as I should which brings me to my next question. Can you do anything about the chrome pits or am I stuck with those? BTW my rims (1300C model) look like crap. Whats the best product to clean the black off of them, aircraft paint thinner? haha

Lots of elbow grease and plenty of rags..........I use Wizards metal polish and a combination of other metal polishes. The Wizards comes in tear apart material that is saturated with some type polish

They look great when finished but it is some work and hard to keep looking good without always spending hours and hours. The easy way and looking into one or the other is chrome or powder coat

thats what I'm thinkin dusty. I just like to ride mine. All these shiny ones look nice but I think imma go with the rat rod look so I don't have to clean it. Call it laziness I guess. I think I've let it go too far anyway. I can't get the black off the rims or the pits out of the chrome. Ride it like you stole it right?

Ear wax and butt grease works pretty good ;D

update: the elbow grease idea wasn't sittin well with me, this is what I came up with. I took never dull which is cotton soaked in polish similar to what larry was talking about. I stuck tufts of it to the velcro on my orbital hand sander. Mine is shaped like an iron so it got in the corners well. I used a buffing wheel on a dremel tool for the really small stuff. They say a lazy man will find an easy way to do any job, they also say work smarter not harder. take your pick but my elbows don't hurt and the black spots are gone. I think momma woulda been proud. Brian-1 Work-0. BTW I may be on to something the patent is mine!

Yep Dusty we agree with you...the motto in our household is "it's hard to clean it when the wheels are rolling"

+1 on the ZEP, good chit.  Sorry guys, but my chrome wheels (2 yrs old) do not have a problem, no pits or nothing.  So, I don't have to worry about polishing while turning...LOL!   :good:
