Anyone know a good route for the Painted churches....
« on: July 30, 2009, 07:24:09 AM »

I am trying to get some map/route information to the Painted Churches for a ride and some sight seeing.... Wife has been bugging me to go on a ride, we have heard of the Painted Churches, but cant seem to find where they are and which way is good to go.

If anyone is familiar of the Painted Churches and knows of a good route, or where they are located, please advise. I can develop a map as long as I know where they are..... :-\

I probably wouldn't be able to make the group ride, but I would be interested in getting a copy of the ride you map out if possilbe.  My wife would love to do a trip like this.  She's kind of started collecting pictures of Churches that she's shot from our trips.

Thanks.

I think Ride Texas mag (or Texas Highways) did an article on the Painted Churches sometime back.  Had a good route thru the area if I remember correctly (NO guarantee on THAT, however!!!   ;D  )

Found this on a Google search:  **The Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce has detailed directions for the painted churches. Brochures are available outside the chamber office for weekend visitors. 618 N. Main, Schulenburg, Texas.

Sounds like a good time.  Have fun!

Sounds like an interesting trip I hope I am available when you go. For some time I have been thinking it would be a cool thing to do a series of trips to old Texas missions.

Got 5 church locations all within 20-30 miles of each other. Am workin on a good route, jsut have not had time to plan it out. Basically Start from Shiner, to Praha, Dubina, Ammansville and end at High hill. Map details forthcoming.
Need to find a good spot to eat between the church tours maybe some where in Schulenburg...

I Will meet people interested in riding from San Antonio/Austin area at Buckeys off I-10 just outside of Luling to ride to Shiner where we can meet up there with group from Houston or others.

I also would like to do it when it gets a bit cooler at least get out of the 100's it has been these past weeks. Looking at end of August on the 29th... this will not be a, how fast can we move ride, rather it will be more of a cruise it and enjoy the sights.. :bikerider:

Let me work on the route, times and length of ride detals this weekend and will post it by Sunday..
