Emergency Asst on your TX Drivers License
« on: July 03, 2009, 01:37:27 PM »

  Your Texas Drivers License

This was news to me. I got my license out and looked. It's really there!
It's very, very small, but it's there. Something all Texans should know,
especially since this has received very little or no publicity.  Your
Texas driver's license has a phone number on the back, just above the bar
code on the lower left side:

1-800-525-5555. (It's in VERY SMALL PRINT, but it IS there.   This number
can be called for emergency assistance on the highway or wherever you
might have trouble while in your car.  A service truck will be sent to
you. This service is state operated and paid for with your tax dollars..
If you are ever stranded, just call the number on your driver's
license....help is on the way.  A state trooper will be sent to make sure
all is well. This one is worth passing on especially to all the women you
  know.

Never paid attention to that either.  Wish I had, my daughter ran out of gas north of Hillsboro last month and it cost her 100 bucks to get towed in to get gas.

I hope anyone else has better luck than my daughter with it.  I just talked to her and she did call that number.  The dispatcher told her that they would call for a tow truck.  She asked if a state trooper would come and help since she was a female alone and she was told no, that all they could do was call her a tow truck.  Our tax dollars at work or she just got ahold of a lazy dispatcher.

Pops always told us that if we broke down call him night or day but if we ran out of gas ,call somebody else. No excuse for running out of gas

I called the old man from a telephone booth, "Dad, I just ran out of gas up north on the bypass out by ..."

Dad cut me off and said, "If your are not home by midnight, you know how long you will be grounded for."

A loud click was the next sound I heard. :banghead: Wasted that dime!

Hitched a ride home real quick. The next day a friend to take me and a can of gas back to my truck.

That number is just for requesting roadside assistance.
Nothing free about it.

Well........You know it's there so use it.................. :bikerider:

No where does it say it's Free. They would call you a tow truck ( emergency asst.)

I don't have a tow truck number handy for my car but I do have AMA Motow.....

I know that will bring you some gas if you are a AAA member.I am with my cars, and they are supposed to assist you if you are in some one elses car. Check with some other motorist assistant groups, they may also help you.

This is good info to have and thanks for sharing Marigold!  The number is also on the bottom of the inspection stickers for the cars.  There's also an emergency assist telephone number on the newer eztag stickers.

I knew about this but have never used it. Thanks for sharing that for the ones that didn't know about it.

I showed up at a campsite where 4 of my biker co-workers were staying. We were going on a morning ride to get breakfast. Two of the guys that were supposed to ride waved me on and said "We can't make this one". My boss started his bike and looked at me and said "A lot of people 'own' motorcycles".
