Clutch cover getting hot?

I'm baffled on this and maybe it's just something I didn't notice before I tore my bike all down. After riding the bike the clutch cover on the left side of the motor and the oil dipstick are so hot they will burn your hand if you touch them. Seems like that isn't right...none of the other covers are anywhere near that hot.... Oil pressure light doesn't come on though so I'm pretty sure it's pumping oil. Not to mention I'm sure the clutch would have burned up by now...almost 700 miles on her since I put it back together.... Any ideas? Is this normal?

I think that's normal.
Your motor oil goes in there to oil the clutch. so if your motor oil is hot it stands to reason that your oil around your clutch would be hot too.
I will go for a ride later to day and let you know if mine is doing the same thing

it's normal, i figured that out real quick after i put on my chrome dipstick. I now know why honda uses a plastic handle on their dipstick. it takes a good 30 minutes before i can take out the dipstick without a rag. no worries.

Glad it's normal.  I mean, I assumed that it was it normal, especially since i bought it new, and I knew it just ran hotter than my old Shadow.

On a hot day your oil temperature will exceed 200 F.

And even in July at the tip top of Mt. Evans in Colorado, I hot clutch cover is not a bad thing to experience...trust me!  :thumbup:  :cool2:  :flag:
