Whats good in galveston ??
« on: May 19, 2009, 04:42:09 PM »

Ok the wife and i are thinking about riding to Galveston Saturday spending the night there or around there depending on whats available on the island and was wondering if it was worth the ride there knowing that they are still rebuilding after Ike. I am thinking any hotel in the island will be few and pricey so i guess somewhere up 45 heading back into Houston will over the best choice and not cost a weeks worth of pay..  LOL Looking for someone around that area that knows it and can tell us if its a worth a trip to see. Open to any other ideas as well but want to stay out of Houston. i get nervous in a cage around there much less on a bike with the wife on board.  LOL  :couch:  :ohwow:

thanks

As far as eats go The Spot is good and usually plenty bikers there on a nice weekend. Also Fish Tales used to be pretty good.Moody Gardens might be back up and running with the pyramid and the gardens inside but have not heard anything definate. Its on its way back but will be awhile yet and the bigest schocker is all the dead oaks driving down Broadway that will have to be replaced.Have fun and enjoy and maybe someone can chime in on the hotels.

Kenah boardwalk area near NASA was a decent place before the hurricane, not sure about now, Hotels would be cheaper as well.

Galveston sucks... I read in another forum that they were ticketing people for anything they could...  So if you still go there, make sure you got all your lose ends covered.

So I was there today. Not a whole lot going on unless you are a constuction worker.  Murdocks is the only activity on the water(it's still in the framing stage, but being built exactly the way it was.) Taco Cabana is is rebuilt and looking great.  They needed a makeover.

The strand has a about half of the businesses open.  My guess is all the constuction will shy people away and what's open now won't be in six months. This is the reason we didn't stop.

Mechanic street has the hotel, but that's about it.

The beach is clean at stewart, but there is an odor in the air somethin fearse.  The water seems to be cleaner, but its still a funky green color.

Ferry is open and the dolphins seem to have multiplied.

Tickets are being passed out like candy.  There were two officers standing by thier trucks ticket books in hand looking for bad stickers probably.

There is still beach access just to the right of wings.  You have to go in the exit and park next to the fence of stewart beach.

Wayne and I are going to go down and meet up with Rick and his wife for dinner on Saturday night.  We are thinking of eating at The Spot.  Anyone from the Houston area want to link up with us and ride down to Galveston for dinner?
