Actually, I don't think it REALLY matters........................ But just to be correct I would set them up for the inverted forks (don't know if you bought the OEM seals, but if you did they SHOULD be oriented to inverted forks). I put a set on SUPRA 1's newly chromed forks and both leaked. He took them to a dealer, who said that I had installed them upside down. I really felt bad about that; aside from the fact that he had trusted me to do it correctly, I think Jonathan is a really nice guy and I had deprived him of the pleasure of riding his newly (and extensively) customized VTX. That's probably why he won't talk to me any more (just kidding, Jonathan).
I put a set on Lucky's Lover's forks when one of his seals started leaking. Wayne, Connie, and I all checked to make sure that they were oriented correctly -- I told them what I had done to Jonathan's bike. After the change, both seals were GUSHING fluid. He changed them out; we had all confirmed the orientation, and our best guess (fueled by copious quantities of Weidbuzzer Instant Intelligence Fluid) was that HDL had sent him the wrong seals. After he changed them out (with the orientation again confirmed), they continued to gush fork oil. "Fill'er up with fork oil and check the gas, please."
Because I had also attempted to install one of the seals on Dusty's forks upside down (don't tell Bill that it was actually a test to see if he was paying attention) before all of these other mishaps, I have come to the conclusion that fork seals don't like me. Actually, they hate me. However, it is a reciprocal agreement, so it's all good. Anyway, the point of all this is that when it comes to fork seals, you should be 180 degrees from whatever I say. Have I gotten you on the right track?
