2008 1300 Front Wheel Wobble
« on: April 26, 2009, 09:09:18 PM »

On the way back from BBT today as I slowed down the front wheel began to wobble really bad.  I can hold it, but if I have a light touch the wheel begins to wobble when I slow down about 30 to 40 MPH.  I have heard from others that this is not uncommon with 1300's and requires some front end work.  Will be calling Honda of Houston in the AM to see if Honda will fix it.  Advice?

Spoke with Honda of Houston today - nothing I did not expect.  Quote "We will look at it, but it most likely your tires are cupped"   :violin::banghead:,  Quote  We have not have anyone with wobble problems" :violin::banghead: ,  "You don't want to put aftermarket bearins in" :banghead: :banghead: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: - looks like I'll have to do it my self.

Seriously, sorry you are having drama. If you decide to do it yourself, PM me with any questions. I did mine a while back....

I have it on good authority that the dreaded VTX1300 front end wobble is exclusively attributable to not using only genuine, certified Honda air in your front tire.

Now you know................ ;D

i got the wobble too if you order bearing get me some too but first I am going to have my front tire check for balance and if it isn't the tire I going to drive it into the first honda dealer I see and ____________ that could be a terrorist threat so you fill in the blank I'll call the CEO and have him ride it.  :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: O0 mf

+1  :agree:  Check you air in your tire also.

How many miles do you have on it?  You might get by with just tighting them up just a bit.

All japanese dealers are completely useless.  I scour a ton of forums and it's the same scenario everywhere...

"We've never heard of it"
"You might affect the warranty"
"We didn't put that scratch there"
"You'll need to leave it here for a week" (for a 1 hour job)
"I'm not even sure why we have a shop because we're completely worthless" (ok maybe I made that up)

Actually, I was very impressed by the service department (actually, by the entire dealership) at El Campo Cycle Center. It's been years since I was there -- it was before they moved -- but they didn't pull that crap when I dealt with them.

Went in to the dealer, and they could not find anything but my front tire needs to be replaced.  I have 7K miles.  I check the air in the tires after it has sat overnight before I ride.  I did not that the wobble can with my wife with me.  Riding solo I do not get the tank slap.  Weight distribution provided an early warning to a developing problem.

I had a wobble once it felt like it was coming from the front tire, had it checked no one could find anything. It wouldn't even wobble when they tested it. I would get back on the bike get up around 45 mph and get the wobble again. It turned out I was missing a bolt on my memphis shade and I was lighter then the guys test riding the bike so with thier weight they never felt it. Would it be nice if you just had a screw loose?

jeez....

Its the neck bearings. It is VERY common with the 1300's. It happened to mine!! the bearings fixed it.

Change the bearings. It's not your tires...It's not your torque. It's the bearings.... ;)
