I have the Zumo 450. It has less features than the 550, but the extra features were (to me) not worth the $$.

How much is the 450?

If I remember I think I paid $350.00

that's a good deal... did it include the car and bike mount as well?

I've been trying to figure out what I am going to do to mount and power the unit on the bike.  Figured on a handle bar mount, but haven't figured out what I am going to do to power it just yet...

This is what some guys on the VTXOA board are using...it does the necessary conversion in power that you need.

Anywhere from $350.00 to $500.00 depending on where you buy it. The 550 is a lot more.. It comes with just the motorcycle mount.

I would recommend a Garmin product only! I'm in the aviation industry and Garmin is a trusted name in aircraft avionics. We use Garmin GPS units in our aircraft exclusively. If it's good enough for aircraft, I figure it's good enough for my vehicles. ;D

For my Bike/Truck, I use a Nuvi 760. It has all the features I need but isn't as expensive as the Zumo line. Plus, it has a big screen. I have no problem using the touchscreen features wearing gloves. It's not water proof but I don't like riding in the rain anyway. If I got caught in a rain storm, I would simply put the unit in the handlebar bag or a saddle bag. My mount has rubber isolators, so vibration shouldn't be a problem. I have a friend that's been running a Nuvi on his bike for over a year and has never had vibration related issues.

I use a Techmount http://www.techmounts.com/ which holds the unit real solid and can be adjusted in a number of angles.

Here are a few pictures of the installation on my 1800F model...

I like how the Techmount positions the Nuvi 760 directly over my digital instrument cluster.
A quick glance gives me all the info I need.

This side view shows the SD memory card slot. I have a 4GB card installed which hold all my MP3 tunes.
The audio plug goes to my Autocom system which handles all the audio to my helmet (including intercom to passenger) nicely.
The stereo sound quality for my tunes is excellent.
I have a cigarette lighter receptacle in my handlebar bag for power.

Another view with the GPS removed from the holder. The holder is from Ram.
When the unit isn't mounted, I simply tuck the audio and power cable into the handlebar bag.

Is $179.99 a good price for the Nuvi 760?  Anyone use this web site before?

I thought so too.

Bought everything from Amazon.com Came with everything but the car mount. I called Garmin for the car mount stock number to make sure I was ordering the correct one from Amazon. Garmin told me Amazon is one of their customers. Amazon was much cheaper then Garmin site. All items were new.

I bought a car mount for $65.00 and a girl friend gave me hers from her Zumo 550. She uses another brand in her car so she just gave it to me. Real good deal.........FREE Now we have one for my car and one for Jim's truck.

Rex,

I check all unfamiliar sites with this site:  www.resellerratings.com

Based on what I pulled up, I'd stay away from them.  http://www.resellerratings.com/store/NaviGenius_CloseoutGenius

;D ;D...but I have to correct you on the fender.  It's a pepsX special, not an undertaker!  I can still be your role model, though!

Rex...........

If you don't want to order from Amazon go to Fry's Electronics on West Road. They have good prices.....and they will take back a lots of stuff if you have your receipts.

if you go to fry's be sure to check their website first and see if it is cheaper on the web.  If it is cheaper, they will honor the web price.

I have a nuvi mounted to the bike with a mount a  bought off ebay for about 30 bucks. Uses the stock cradle. Can't go wrong with the garmin. customer service is far superior to anyone in the business.

Here is the mount link.  I can't figure out how to post the picture. [img]

Taz,
I bought mine from Amazon.com. Currently $226.49 (the price has come down since I bought mine). At that price, I may have to buy another one! ;) I say that because the 760 has the realtime traffic info feature and to use that service, you need the right power adaptor/antenna... The cigarette lighter power adaptor is also the antenna for the FM traffic service. I move the 760 between my bike and my truck and it's a pain in the butt to move the power cord, so I was just going to purchase another one... until I found out what it costs... around $100.00! Hell, I might as well spend another $126.00 and get another complete Nuvi 760 system (which comes with the power adaptor). ;D
Here is the amazon web site...
