Removing gas COMPLETELY
« on: February 14, 2009, 11:33:36 PM »

Any idea how in the blue hell to get that last pint of gas out of a gas tank before you ship the damn thing off for paint? I removed the pet cock, rolled it around, blew air into it... still has about a cup or so in it. Where in the hell is it?

I know that this post is not a joke, or a boob, or a butt, or the like, but I really need some help here and hope someone will help me...

An idea that might work,  compressed air hose, outside, no smoking. Keep the air on until it dries out. Should work fairly quick, I think.

i know exactly what your talking about, went through the same thing with mine. there are baffles in the tank to keep the gas form sloshing around during turns, stopping, starting etc.... just keep shaking it takes along time. maybe you could pressurize the tank with an air hose since you just have the petcock opening or just toss a match in there and burn it out.  :ohwow: :ohwow: :ohwow: J/K. good luck and let us know the magic solution when you figure it out. ride safe.

Paper towels on the end of a stick? You get to figure out how to attach the towels but I'd suggest a bread bag tie. Which seems a lot safer than the lighted match trick earlier suggested.

Of Course it's dirty. It's hard to clean when the tires keep moving.

No paper towels. If they shred or tear in there you'll have a future problem with a clog.

How about a Tampon on a stick? OK, just an idea to soak it up.

A lot of interesting ideas....what I did is got some RC gas hose or aquarium hose. It’s very cheap.  Flip your tank so that it will pool and stick the hose into the pool.  Then you cyphen all the gas out.  Then your only problem would be how to get the last fraction of an ounce out. :)

If you really want to get fancy you can get what's called a "clunker” It’s a little metal pickup that goes at the end of the hose to weight it down.  Essentially going to the lowest point.

This hose is also good for bleeding brakes, and sucking oil out of boats motors, or just swinging it aroud till you break something.

HOOTER!!!

I OWE YOU BEERS.... MANY OF THEM...

I can't believe it, but tampons taped to the end of a tig rod got about 2 cups of gas out. That RULES!!

And tampons burn a long time when they are soaked in gas and lit on fire...

THANKS, HOOTER! :cool2:
