Not a good day.....
« on: February 13, 2009, 06:57:14 AM »

This is not the way I wanted my thursday to go.
I was taking my dog Shelby back to the vet. She had an operation last week
to remove a mass and I was taking her back because she was not herself and
would not eat or drink. As you could imagine, she was pretty weak.
As we were getting in to my truck, I was holding her in my arms, I got behind
the wheel while still holding her. She looked up and around at me then she let
out a last breath and passed in my arms.
My wife seems to think she held on for me to come home so she could see me
again before she went to sleep.
Not a good day.

Ah, crap.

Eric, Been there, done that. The little buggers worm their way into your heart and just fricking up and leave. I still miss my buddy. (That's his picture on my avatar.) And it's been nearly a year since he left us. But it does get better. I can laugh again at him teasing his step-brother for half the night.  :stickpoke:

Having a dog pass is never a good day, but, personally, I can't think of a better way for the inevitable to happen, other than what just did for you. My condolences.  :'(

Damn Eric...I feel your pain..I have had 3 of my babies die...two in my arms and one while I was out of town.  Believe me having that last moment with them is far better than not being present.  I am so sorry for your loss.

I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. I have two dogs that i love very much and would hate to see them go. Some people might say that they are just animals, but to me they are much more than that.  Sometimes b/c I've had my Buddy so long now, I look at him and sometimes feel like i'm actually looking at a person.  Weird huh?  Anyways, I'm glad you got to spend those last moments with your little buddy. I think that's why puppys are so damn cute, they help in the greiving process and give a lot of joy.

I'm sorry to hear that...  I had a cat put down while I held him.  He was my partner in crime, was with me for 10 years.  I never had anything die on me before it was hard.
