Flying into the Hudson River
« on: February 10, 2009, 07:33:23 AM »

From my other BB.

Here is the FAA release of the 1549 tapes. It might be kind of boring to non pilot types. I'm surprised the FAA either didn't call the USCG or Port Authority, or didn't bother to put that on the tape.

Of Course it's dirty. It's hard to clean when the tires keep moving.

That is the way it would have sounded in the cockpit if I was flying the plane.  ;D

Nice spoof.  But I still commend the pilot for his coolness under pressure.  :c

The tapes release show only the communication between the tracon controller and AWE1549 (and other airplanes) and any other facility the controller communicated with. (LGA tower, Teterboro tower). While all this was going on, supervisors in the tracon would notifying the Port Authority and any other rescue organizations needed. The towers have the crash phones to notify all rescue personnel on the airports, and surrounding areas also. Everything is recorded, but would not be the same recording as the contoller and pilot.

The controller involved was also drug tested after the accident.

It amazes me that no one waas killed. Great ending to what could have been a lot worse.

I'm sure everyone thought it was going to worse as they went down. It was amazing. I bet it was quite a sight for someone just walkiing around, and then see a aircraft of that size make a controlled landing in the river.

... And the FAA will be investigating, "What went right" for a very long time!

It would appear this was the first time a "Ditch Switch" was flipped and it worked. They have a switch for water landing a jumbo jet. Who knew?

:congrats: to Sully. He's one  :cool2: dude.
