Recalls...
« on: July 17, 2006, 10:35:58 AM »

...I've used the Search function without success - I get 3,000 hits   :D

I've gone through the HRCA board pretty thoroughly and had no luck running down Motorcycle Recall info.

Anyone here have a resource(s) that would detail recalls on a specific bike?

Thanks,

Lennie

If you register your bike on the HRCA clubhouse, it will show you any recalls for that VIN.

I've also used this:

http://www.recalls.gov/
http://www.recalls.gov/nhtsa.html
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/recalls/recallsearch.cfm

As for VTX's there are only a few recalls and mostly early bikes - battery ground for 02's, sidestand bolt for 02's, 03's, maybe '04's. And wheel coloring problem, not sure which years but it was very limited. Might be a couple more but I can't think of any, those are the majors.

RobDogg what do you mean by Wheel Coloring?? I have had the others things done to my bike but the other has not been passed by me. Thanks,  Chad

I have an 03 and the dealer told me there were no recalls on the 03 for the sidestand, only the 02's. My dealer wouldn't be less than completely truthful would he??????

According to the sites above, the 02 and 03 VTX has no recalls whatsoever.

Isn't that funny.. I never checked for the VTX on those sites, I've used them for cars and such... Guess I should check my sources before I post!!

My years could be wrong on the recalls so if the dealer tells you something different then go with that. (unless they tell you that recall never happened, then they're lying)

The wheel coloring is where some of the cast aluminum wheels like on the C model had a discoloration problem.  I haven't ever seen what that means in pictures but I think it's where you get large oxidation patches in the wheel that won't go away.  This was a very limited recall I believe but you could search the VTXOA for wheel discoloration and fine info on it.

I know for a fact that the '02 had a recall on the sidestand.  I've got one and had it done.  Something about replacing a spring I think.

02 1800:   sidestand and transmission sticking in gear, two recalls.

oops, 3, wheel discoloration - causes wheel to crack or split causing quick loss of air (weak spot in material?).
