Help needed - Doing clayton mod
« on: February 22, 2009, 11:11:56 AM »

Ok - got brave yesterday and took a drill to my baby ('07 1300S)...what I guess you would call a "shallow" clayton mod.  Six 7/16th ??? holes, back plates only. I like it, but already want more, esp more rumble - and everything I read here tells me "going deep" is the way to get there. Here's my question: when i shine a flashlight into the pipe, there is a smaller tube capped off and ending between the back and second plate.  Do I drill into that or just the plate behind it?  My buddy (HD rider but a good guy) thinks that drilling into the inner tube will cause bad things to happen - old testament, end of world, cats mateing with dogs kinda stuff. But I thought I read somewhere this is what give you the deep rumble. Can anyone give me some advice here? ??? ???

I helped a guy do this once.  We drilled seven (1/2 inch) holes through both plates.  It sounded a lot better.

Back in the old days, you'd get a hammer and a piece of rebar and jam it in to the exaust pipe. It would pop off that cap on the baffles and you would have free flowing air.

If she's really your baby - go deep - she'll like it and pay you back, but don't expect the sound you would get with custom pipes, I did it and got pretty much what I expected.

GO DEEP, Then you will want more. and more, and more. You will finally end up with custom pipes. Also, I went ahead and got a K&N air filter to give  more air.  :cool2:

Pop a seventh hole in it  better rumble     definately do this one

Then if you still want a little more go deep
one hole in the end of that smaller tube inside the exaust, one way up in the other end of the exaust tip pipe(the one where the air came out when she was stock), and one in that second plate for good measure  better rumble still and a little more sound.

Thanks BlueRetro.  I'll try the seventh hole this weekend and then go from there. I do want more rumble.

Hello, my Pacific Standard Time friend!

Bring the Black Beauty to work when you get home and I'll bring a drill. We can do the swiss cheese mod! Seriously, I have changed an A/C compressor in the back lot for a guy and did a 4x4 hub replacement in the employee parking lot... I'm sure we can get away with doing the Clayton in the bike area.

By the way, I talked with Trent and we are on whenever you are ready for the carb work and any other mods you wanna do. I have the tools, bike jack, and Miller Lite at the shop!!!!

Oh yea... If you look on the board, someone is giving away some 1300 R exhaust for free, in Houston, I think. If you are interested, I can make the quick drive down there and get em for you in case we screw up!! If you want, you can set up the "purchase" and let me know and I will plan on going to get them...

While you are in SCLA, you should run by B81 and check out the new Datacenter! I had a huge hand in the move and setup of her. I am really proud of it!! Be safe and have fun! :bikerider:
