saddle bags & Sissy bars
« on: July 20, 2006, 08:41:47 AM »

I have a honda sissy bar and I bought Honda saddle bag mounts. but I had to get new (longer) back bolts for it, The sissy bar off sets the the mounts. So the bags are flared out in the back about an 1" or so. anyone else had this problem?
anyone know a work around so my bags are not so flared out?

I have the Honda sissy bar and delux luggage rack. I had pure hell with it until I realized the dealer had sold me a sissy bar for an "R" instead of a "C". I found this out when I added the luggage rack a few months later. I have also added a trailor hitch which uses the same bolts. I don't have an answer for a quick fix but I can tell you that I don't have the original bolts in any of the six locations where all this bolts up and if memory serves me right I even made a few of my own spacers.

The only good advice I can offer is cover your fender and have help to hold all the stuff when you are trying to bolt it up.

From what you said, it sounds like you need a .5 inch spacer in the front on each side. Prolly have to get a longer bolt where you mount up the front bolt also.

Like Dusty said, make sure you got the right setup. The R rack and backrest is wider than the C.  If you've got all Hondaline stuff then they should bolt up quite nicely.  But keep in mind that the rear fender (at least on a C) is tapered so to make the bags parallel there has to be spacers .  The back of the bag will be further away from the fender than the front, but they'll be parallel.
