Another spark plug question
« on: September 07, 2008, 02:16:45 PM »

Hi guys; I did a search on spark plugs here in the forum and it seems there's a few different types used.  Could some one educate me?  I've got the 1300 and need to change the plugs, so what are the advantages/disadvantages to the different brands and such?  I recall seeing one post where there were some plugs for around $17...  :o  Also, I take it Autozone or O'Reilly's will have the plugs and I don't need to go to the Honda shop?

Also, I know there's two different kinds of lubricant to put on the top and bottom of each plug, but I don't remember what they are and which one goes where.  Somebody wanna help a blonde out?

Thanks!

I think the 13's are different, too.   O0  I would think there still should be a cross referenced plug that is less expensive.

I did a search on the 1300 board on the VTXOA. LOTS OF TALK ABOUT PLUGS BUT VERY LITTLE REFERENCE TO THE MAKE OR REFERENCE NUMBERS. These two threads did mention some reference #'s. Hope it helps, got to get to work.

Wow, I think I'm getting information overload!  If I decide to go with the NGK "cooler" plug for a 1300, what stock/reference number am I looking for?

Also, in deciding on a hot/cold plug, I do about 50/50 in riding around.  To work I average 70mph, 30 miles to work.  Weekends could be 70mph+ or cruising around at 40-50mph.  It sounds like I should stick with a cold one since I'm stock.

Final question, and yes dangit, I'm learning all of this... I can buy motorcycle spark plugs at O'Reilly?  Trust me, I've come a long way in the past two years on understanding my bike and doing some of the maintenance by myself!  After this I'd love to learn how to tackle the valves.
