Headlight modulator...
« on: September 05, 2008, 06:38:44 PM »

What do you think of them?  Are they worth it?  Do they wear-out bulbs/parts prematurely?  Thinking of getting one and was wondering what everyone thought of them.

As far as safety goes, in some ways I think they are good, but only when it is concerning someone turning left across your path.  Then they would have a higher chance of seeing you.  But as far as any other driving scenarios, I don't see that they do much good...nobody behind you notices them, nor beside you...ok the guy in front of you would see it in his rear view mirror, but he is not a threat to you.  As far as mechanical viewpoints, I can't comment on that.

If you don't love what you're doing, then don't do it.
Your chances of success are directly proportional to the degree of pleasure you derive from what you do.

I don't like them and think they should be restricted to emergency vehicles.

I was riding with someone that had one, and the on coming traffic was pulling to the shoulder.
Emergency vehicles only.

I had two people pull out in front of me today within a 6 block area and I was in my 3/4 ton black truck with my lights on and was pulling a lowboy. If people aren't paying attention, they just aren't and it doesn't matter what you do except drive defensively.

And dats howz i feels aboutsz dat!!  ;)

I agree with Bill 100%; some idiots just aren't paying attention at the wheel. I've had morons pull in front of me running emergency traffic with the wigwags (a modulator for cage headlamps), lightbar, and siren on. The wigwag is the best daytime traffic mover emergency vehicles have, and if people start ignoring them because they may just be another motorcycle (which they will do as more bikers start using them), emergency vehicles are going to have a harder time getting to the call fast, and have more wrecks while doing so. What we need is universal, vigorous, zero-tolerance traffic enforcement. That is the only way people will be motivated to focus on driving while they're driving. Unfortunately, most local elected officials would oppose such enforcement; they'd be afraid of losing votes if they endorsed it.

ya think of it this way how many time have you been driving in your cage and looked behind to see a cop behind you coming up fast what is most peoples first reaction to step on the brake i wouldn't want that to happen to me if i was riding behind that cage
