Let me rephrase that....  I want one that tells me when to turn, then stops talking.

When you put it like that, maybe that zumo 550 ain't so expensive after all.

No problem Todd! I know how bad you've wanted her, LOL! We can share her.

LOL Yeah, I still have wet dreams about her, but the sharing?????????  I dunno, I always thought of a 3-some as having 2 women in it, not 2 men!   :) :) :) :)  Er.............. maybe that's not what you meant.

Glad I could clear up some info on the ZUMO.

Yup, I'd say I dumped a grand into it by the time I got it to work and bought the XM subscription.  Then I was a bit pissed when I found out the XM satellite signal wouldn't reach Alaska afeterall (I upgraded from my GPS V for that trip).

Let me clarify that the Bluetooth functions of the ZUMO 550 work perfectly (just as you'd expect) with 1) a Bluetooth cell phone (w/ onscreen functions) and 2) Jill's voice commands (TTS software).  So if you are looking for a Bluetooth GPS with TTS voice commands (reads and speaks names of streets/cities/etc) for a motorcycle, the ZUMO is GREAT!  Its waterproof, ruggedized, touch screen friendly, and has large easy to read graphics.  I got mine for $650ish.

Just the music part is quirky (unexpected).  One other thing is, it requires its cradles in order to work in/on vehicles - kind of like, they didn't get all the electronics to fit in the unit so they stuffed some more into into the cradle(s).  Not a real problem, just strange.  The unit will still work with no cradle (without any sounds) off of its internal battery for several hours, if hiking or playing with it in a resturant (no 12V power).

If you just want a good, less expensive TTS GPS check out the Garmin NUVI.  LOTS of options to choose from (spend more for ALL the options you want).  Its all self contained (speaker in the unit), but its NOT waterproof, or ruggedized.  Consequently, I would NOT consider it for a motorcycle, but its a good one for a car.  Linda liked the GPS V (I put on her bike) on our Alaskan trip and loved the ZUMO so much she started thinking about getting a new GPS of her own, for her car.  But she can borrow one of mine, or we're traveling together, so I think she'll wait.

Beer?  Did someone say beer?????????????  ;D ;D ;D

Bill, I have read over on the Feejer forum that Best Buy has some good deals on them, as they are being closed out. You may want to look into that.

Jeff,

I called the Best Buy here and was told they don't carry the 550 zumo and would not order it.  :o I called three other Best Buys, One in Baytown and one in Pasadena. I never could get past the menu at the Baytown store and the Pasadena store got me past the receptionist but no one ever picked up in the gps department. I even called a store in Lake Charles, LA. Got the same...no one will answer the phone.  ::) Guess they get too many phone calls.

What about...

http://www.techondigital.com/product.asp?productid=zumo550

I checked out this site, and seems to be on the up and up except..........They have (had) the 4 year extended warranty at $399 on sale for $160 something. When I got to check out, the warranty was still $399. I canceled. Just went back to the site and the on sale flag on the warranty is gone. They do have the lowest price at $449 for the zumo and it appears that you get everything that everone else is offering.

It's to the point that I'm not thinking where can I get the best deal but rather who is gonna cheat me the least.  :'(

I guess you didn't see my earlier post back on Page 1...do not buy from them.  Open this link, and then you have to scroll down to start reading the comments on this company.

The Zumo is (IMO) the top-of-the-line GPS unit for MCs, and you're just gonna have to bite the bullet and expect to pay about $630 (www.buydig.com) for it.  If you find it cheaper than that, it's going to be either one of those Best Buy specials, or an illegitimate company that will cheat you.  I don't even own one, but from all of my research that I've done on it...it will be the one I buy (or it's successor).

Also, a good place to check out reviews/ratings of online retailers is www.resellerratings.com.  At the top of the window is a Store Ratings tab.  Click on it, and then in the next window, you'll see an orange box near the top right where you can search for any store you want.  When I searched for TechonDigital, it came up with two sets of reviews, because apparently (as most of the scammers do) they are running the business under different names, but they all point to the same website/online store.  Usually the websites "look" different, but you're still buying from the same company when you place the order.

Here's what I found there in regards to Techon:  http://www.resellerratings.com/reseller_list.pl?keyword_search=techon%20digital

Yes Sir, I did see your post, just got confused and when that store started looking fishy I came back here to re read this thread and sure enough I was on one that you had warned me about. I shitcanned them.

I ended up going thru Amazon.com...... bought the Garmin Zumo 550, the GXM30 Antenna, a three year service warranty and an 8GB sdhc card. Am looking at the Camos 600 headset but think I'll change to the Camos 300 for the bike to bike feature. And of course now that I think about it.......I would probably have to buy two headsets of the 300s to be able to talk to anyone. sheesh  ::) This is taxing my pea brain.  :-\

OH YEAH...THE DONGLE, I forgot the dang dongle.   :D

I went a long time thinking it was a waste of money to have one because it wouldn't get used very often. But with this set up, provided I get the right headsets and can afford to get a spare to loan to folks I ride with, it will be great on trips. I've been known to get separated and lost.  8) Plus, I can take this set up from vehicle to vehicle and have XM AND GPS.

But, it's always something. My credit union decided that these were unusual purchases and denied payment last night.  ::) Hopefully, that will straighten itself out this morning.  :-\

Thanks for the link, I'm technologically challenged and will have a million questions.

Well, lemme know if I can help you out with any of those questions. I just got back from a 5 day trip through Michigan's UP, and we relied on my brother-in-law's quite a bit. I drew up the routes and filled two 2GB memory cards with music for him ahead of time, and helped him figure out how to use everything. You're going to like it, both on your bike and in your car/truck.  O0

Just let me know when you get that "spare" unit, and I'll come over and take you up on that offer!  :) :)

Glad everything worked out for you.  I'm going to keep holding off as much as I can and try to find that "sweet deal" out there somewhere, since I don't really need one.  I just want one!  8)

I will admit, I got tired of shopping. Let me rephrase that, I HATE TO SHOP! Probably spent about $250 more than if I would have, but I got warranties on everything by going this route. The camos 300 and 600 are out of stock so it looks like I'll be waiting a week or so for the headset.  :'( And at $279 for the camos 300, I probably won't be getting a spare. I may check into cheaper bike to bikes that will be compatible.
wHEN i GET IT SET UP, i'LL HOLLER AT YA!  <~~~~ Tha't the Crown typing.  :D
