Hipshot, you can call me anything you like, I'll just argue if I disagree.  LOL

I want to do fork springs too, at some point.  I may couple the whole project with chromed fork tubes tho.

Well, aren't we just gonna pull out all the stops!  Mike, I really loved the looks of that proton!

Snake, I haven't ridden an X with the GW springs, so I can't really evaluate the differences. My understanding is that the ride is the same, but the GWs give you a little more travel. I know there are some out here with them; let's hear what they have to say. I know I've installed at least one set of GW springs in an X, and I recall that they were a lot harder for my scrawny butt to compress than the regular X size when we installed the caps. I THINK we put them in Vernell's bike, but I can't recall for sure.

Jim,

I think GW is what you installed in mine as well.

Like I said, I've got the GL's and I do have more upward travel. It's up about 2 1/2 inches over stock and about an 1 inch or so over rhe 1800 progressive. I love the way it handles and rides. I haven't ridden any bikes the had the right progressive so I can't tell you any difference between the two other than the travel. The downside to more up travel is less down travel. I have several times gone over something and felt the shocks go to full extenstion. I believe if I had to do over again I would have started out with the others and then might or might not have moved up to the GL's. I did it at first for, oh sure the handleing, but for the ground clearance so I wouldn't drag my pegs as soon. Well I haven't drug my pegs since because I don't have the kahoona's to lay it over that far.

Hooter I just put the gw progressives on mine a couple weeks ago.  I'm glad you mentioned the shocks going to "full extension".  It was a sound and feel I was unsure of at first but came to that conclusion last weekend.  Are you talking about hitting a bump and the front end extends out all the way prior to weight returning to the wheel?  When that has happened to me I can't really hear it so much as feel a sort of thunk in the grips.  The other thing I noticed is that it is considerably stiffer than it was before.  Of course I've read a lot lately about low fork oil from the factory.  If that was the case the combination of new springs and proper oil level might equal a little stiffer feel.

Yep, the ole thud in the hand grips.  :D  As far as being stiffer, it is, it's not that mushey stock spring anymore. No more "Mr. Nose Dive" in the cornors or front end droup when you hit the brakes. With all the back roads I ride now that have these damn oil rig saltwater trucks screwing up the road I have really come to enjoy the extra travel due to the unavoidable pothole or asphalt cave in.

I took mine to Discount Motorcycle Tire in Pasadena, charged me $80.00 to change out my springs. I think they did a good job.. :)
