Brake Pads for the 1800
« on: June 26, 2008, 02:36:23 PM »

I am close to needing the front and rear brakes replaced on my 1800.  I am looking at the brake section at DLP, http://tinyurl.com/3sg427, and I want to get opinions on what they have or an other source.  There does seem to be a big difference in price amoung brands.  From $35 for a compete set from EBC to almost $150.00  :o :o for the Honda brand.

Also, is there anything special about the Honda DOT 4 brake fluid?  Or will any DOT 4 fluid work?

Thanks for your input.  O0

I just put these on.  I've had Honda and EBC as well.  I bought the same brand for my sport bike and I love them.  So far they seem great on the VTX.

Plus, they're the cheapest.  That price on the link includes front and rear.

As for Brake/Clutch fluid, just look for synthetic dot 4 and you'll be fine.

Ditto...

I've used the EBC every since my OEM pads bit the dust. They seem to work fine. I think I'm on my second set with 54,000 miles on the bike and I've pulled a trailer for about 18,000 of those miles.

I'm sure the ones Brock has on are even better because he is a more aggressive rider than I am and he likes them.  O0

They are easy to replace. http://www.hondadirectlineusa.com/vtx/search.asp

Any DOT4 will work. Many folks prefer Valvoline Synpower synthetic brake fluid; it is compatible with the OEM fluid and it's reputed to hold up better.

I went to the HDL site and it has the following;
   EBC-610261 (FA261HH), need 3 sets for VTX1800, at $34/set == $102 total.

   CYC-901 $60 for all 3 sets, total $60.

so where is the cheap set?  was the CYC or the EBC purchased?

thanks,

It seems that I mis-read the listing and your are right, the $35 EBC is for one set, not all three.

Same here Dusty.  Been with the EBC since '02, and will stay with them.  No complaints.  Bought some Galfer, but sold them and used the EBC again.  How are you doing old timer.  LOL  Got my shoulder replaced and soon both knees.  Should be in pretty good shape then.  LOL

Good to see you post Gary, I was thinking about you the other day and wondering how you were doing. I guess the replacement thing works if you are going back for more. lol  I can't reach above my head anymore either without wiggling the shoulder joint around. May be right behind you on that one. My brother had both knees replaced and my sister had a knee and a hip replaced. They are 8 and 10 years older than me so I guess my time is coming.

Good luck with it! Don't be a stranger!
