Mileage
« on: January 30, 2008, 02:40:02 PM »

I did a search to try and find out the answer to this first, but didn't find it.  Being a new owner of a 1300, I was real surprised to find out that I only got 33 mpg when I filled up this morning.  Is that pretty normal for Houston commuting?  I was really expecting more like 40+ mpg.  I'm sure that since she is a brand new bike and I am still learning where she likes to be shifted (old bike had tach on it), I might be running her to higher rpms than is gas efficient.  Also is it common at all that a new bike from the dealer might come with it's carbs not properly adjusted?  It has seemed that she has run rough from day one.  At first I thought maybe it was just a different bike and different feel on the throttle and clutch...but after a little over 200 miles I'm not so dumb as to not have gotten the feel of the bike yet.

I put cobra longs pipes from the get go on my 1300C.  Get between 40 to 44 on the high end.

Lucky, assuming that the carbs are adjusted properly, it will still take some time to break the engine in. I have an 1800C, and it was 1500-2K before I was getting 37-38mpg consistantly. The 1300 should get a little better, how much, I'm not sure. A lot REALLY depends on your riding style. If you're heavy on the throttle, your mpg will suffer quickly.

Patience...is that what you are telling me ???  Must admit it is not one of my better suits...but, if you insist I will just keep riding the bike and see if the mileage levels out....task master.

Seriously, thanks for your input.

I was averaging much higher from the get go.  I would have it looked at.
