Ending a lease on on ford truck
« on: September 10, 2007, 04:20:44 PM »

My 3 year lease ends in December, The truck is below mileage. I had planned on turning it in at the same dealer and taking out another lease on a bigger truck. I started getting mail from the dealer that seems they want to throw in a bunch of charges for ending the lease. They want to inspect the truck. Not going to happen. I still have 3 months left on the lease.
From what I understand, I am under no obligation to deal with that dealer in any way.
I am not hurting for a truck as I have another, I want a new one but I don't need it.
Why would a dealer go straight to bull AppleSauce strong arm crap, trying to force me to come to them. I was going to, but now, I'm thinking why.

I have never rented one because of that issue. I was always told that it cost a ton of money to get out of the lease at the end. BS charges and such. Hopefully someone will chime in that has experience with it.

Good Luck!

Take it to him and let him appraise it. Then take it to other dealers even different make dealers and they are usually obligated to pay an average of the appraisals. You need to read your contract however it really depends on the term of your lease. Some leases guarantee you a set value if you do not exceed the milage. I have had several leases and I always exceed the milage so i don't lease anymore.

went through this with our ford about a year ago. never had any problems with our dealer. i guess it does depend on your term. we had a set value for staying under the mileage. we actually decided to keep the truck and financed it for 2 and half more years to purchase. all of this was done over the phone, never had to take the truck in and there was never any mention of any inspections. good luck.

In Texas all vehicle leases are closed end.  This means there is a set value and they can only charge you for any unusual wear and tear and excess mileage.  They ask you to come in ahead of time in case there is excess mileage or damage, AND A CHANCE TO SELL OR LEASE ANOTHER VEHICLE.

I did that lease thing about 10 years ago (GMC "smart buy", more like dumb) and at the beginning it looked like a great deal.  These lease programs are really no more than having a balloon note ($$$$$$$$$ due at the end of the 3 or 4 year deal).  I can't even remember how long mine was for, but I said if I ever got out from under it, I'd NEVER do another.  I know, never say never, but I said it and it hasn't happened again yet.  I turned mine into a dealer that was not the same as the one I bought it from.  I don't think they really wanted it, but they took it.  I was under the mileage, but there was still a fee for turning it in.  Something I wasn't aware of during the time I had it.

You might go read your lease agreement that you signed 3 years ago and see what it says about all those b.s. turn in fees.  It's probably there in "fine print".  Your dealer is prob. giving you enough static about it, because he probably doesn't want the vehicle back.

This is what I would do to that shifty dealer ,
Tell him you want to buy a NEW TRUCK form him but you got to get out of this deal first !
You can bet he will pimp out his owe mom to sell a new car ,so Right after you pick out a new one and he has closed out on the lease agreement & just before the deal is done on the NEW truck
just Say on second thought I don't want it SEE Ya  ::)

I will likely do something like WILDE said.
A friend I work with spent a while selling Honda cars. They fired him because he was part time, and out selling the other salesmen. He said that the only reason they want to inspect the truck, is to try a high pressure sale. He said take it in on the last day of the contract, insist that the contract be fully closed before I will even look at another truck. Then buy or walk.
I got into this by needing 2 new 4wd 4 door trucks to haul small children. The wife traded her truck in on a car that we bought.
My truck is under mileage, no dents, good tires, cracked windshield, small tear in seat pocket worn out wipers.
By the time the contract ends December31st, I should know what kind of truck, if any, that I want to buy.
