Changing out grips
« on: August 24, 2007, 03:08:46 PM »

I am changing my grips this weekend, from stock grips to Kuryakyn ISO grips.  Any suggestions on making the process easier?

Follow the directions and you should be okay.  If you have an air compressor you could use it to blow the stock grips out and free them from the glue but if not just get to cuttin'.   ;D  Sandpaper them a little and get the new grips on quickly and right the first time.  You won't have long before the glue sets.   O0

I can't remember how easy it was to get the stock ones off, but do be careful on the throttle side, the end cap doesn't snap off like the otherside, it is attached to the throttle sleeve...  If you have trouble getting the grip on the throttle side back on (i.e. trouble connecting the dual throttle cable), check the http://tech.vtxoa.com board, i think there was an explanation in there when I did mine...  It is really pretty easy with a pair of needle-nose pliers.  Other than that, get you some golf grip tape and some aqua net hairspray...  put the tape around the handle bar where the grip will go.  A little hairspray goes a long way, too much and it won't dry and your grip will slip, too little and the rubber in the grip will be smudged to the outside, just enough it'll fit like a glove and dry soon.  Also, save the cap off your left hand grip and do the key mod, cause that is kick *zz...
