Possible problems with my choke
« on: August 12, 2007, 03:50:30 PM »

Did a search for this problem but came up empty so maybe this is the first it's come up or maybe everyone but me knows how to fix the problem if in fact it is a problem.

When I first start up my bike in the mornings to let it warm up before heading to work or a nice ride through the country I always pull out my Choke. However, I notice that my bike runs good for about 30 seconds then slowly starts winding down and sputtering. The cause is the Choke keeps trying to go back to it's original position, which is "in" instead of "out" where I want it.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Also, any idea if there is a downloadable owners manual for a '05 VTX1300C out there anywhere?

Behind your choke knob (it's not actually a "choke" but that's what eveyone calls it, so we will too) there is a plastic collar on the shaft. Grab it and twist. Keep twisting and checking the tension on the knob. Sooner or later (hopefully sooner) the problem will be rectified, and your choke knob will stay out until you push it in. Ain't life grand?

Let's see if I can say this without getting it all wrong. Directly behind the "Choke Knob" is a large nut, then a plastic shaft, then about 3 inches further what appears to be a smaller nut about the same size as the plastic shaft. There also appears to be a set screw in the plastic shaft, I only saw one.

Do I need to loosen anything first in order to turn the plastic shaft? And if not should I be able to turn it just using my fingers? I tried turning the shaft and it will not budge.
