Ever heard of REDBOX DVD Rental for $1
« on: July 30, 2007, 12:08:32 PM »

I posted this on the vtxoa board as well.

I live in Fort Worth and there is a Wal-Mart about 3 miles from my house located in Keller, TX.

I walked in the other night and noticed a big red box that said DVD rentals for $1. It was located next to the soda machines inside the doorway. I checked it out and they had new release movies that you could rent for $1 per night. So I rented Blood Diamond and Best of Chappelle's Show for $2 plus tax. You can pay with your debit card, I'm not sure about cash though.

This thing vends the DVD's through a slot on the side of the machine. All you have to do when you return them is have the barcode facing the right direction when you bring them back. These rentals would have cost me $10 at Blockbuster. I was wanting to rent 300 but it wasn't released until tomorrow. I'm gonna go back up there and rent it for $1.

I was just wondering if you guys had ever seen or heard of this. It is friggin cool. There was a line when I went to rent and when I brought them back. Apparently they stock the machine with new releases every Tuesday.

I haven't heard of it. I hope it's not a scam to get your card info.

and here are some codes for free rentals for a day not sure how many still work, but you can use each code 1 time on each credit or debit card you have, but if you keep it longer than 1 day you get charged only for those extra days
http://www.redboxcodes.com/

here is the red box official web site you can even rent online and then go to that Redbox to get your reserved copy

in Houston I have seen them at almost every McDonalds and since there is a McD in Walmart I have found them there too.

I use it a lot and if you know how to copy movies you can increase your collection for a lot cheaper than renting @ blockbuster

Personally I find Blockbuster's online to be a WHOLE lot better idea than anything.  I pay just under $20 a month, and I get 3 movies.  When I return the movie, I can mail it back OR I can take them to a Blockbuster store and use them just like a "free rental" coupon, they return the movies to Blockbuster Online, and Online sends me my new movies completely independent of those "free rentals" from the store.  Living in Dallas the turn around time is AWESOME.  I return a movie after work on Monday and exchange it for something in the store, I get an email on Tuesday saying the new one is shipped, and I get the new one on Wednesday.  Pretty easy to get 18-24 rentals a month, with the convenience of not worrying much about anything being late.

They have those boxes outside some of the McDonalds on the northeast side of Houston.

I showed up at a campsite where 4 of my biker co-workers were staying. We were going on a morning ride to get breakfast. Two of the guys that were supposed to ride waved me on and said "We can't make this one". My boss started his bike and looked at me and said "A lot of people 'own' motorcycles".
