Plan on going to New Braunfels for our summer vacation with the family and was just wondering about what would be something that would be fun to do?? We plan on doing the Schlitterbahn Waterpark at least two days and maybe go down the river in tubes another. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!!

Make sure you stop by Gruene and eat at the Grist Mill.  Gruene is near New Braunfels.  It is in an old real grist mill with mostly open air seating, some overlooking the river and great food to boot.  There are a lot of shops to go through and they did have a good wine bar there if it is still there.  Plus there is the Gruene Hall, one of the oldest dance halls in Texas still in operation.  Lots of celebrities have played there and they also filmed the dance hall scene from Michael with John Travolta there.  There are several places around to get some good German food.  There is a market right in town that I have heard is good, but can't recall the name of it.

 The food there is great.  Not expensive.

The river might still be a little dangerous to tube. A guy lost his life last week when the six man raft he was on, (the only type they were allowing on the river), missed it's landing target, got tipped when it hit the Gruene bridge, and he got swept underneath. He got caught on some brush under the bridge and drowned. The big tube companies are just downstream from the bridge, but I don't know if the water isn't still a bit dangerous.

Want to see some bikes check out Bubbas big Deck in Gruene,
the Comal park is also very nice the Aquifer is flowing right out of the ground there making
the Comal river ,you can literally drink the water where its flowing out of the rocks .
There is also a spring fed swimming pool there with slides and rope swings ,its a very large pool
and  inexpensive. As far as German food Theirs a restaurant call Friesenhahn's and its real authentic German food located about a couple of blocks off the main square right next to the co-op. If you head north toward Austin on 35 about 5 miles out of New Braunfels to there is a place call the Ski ranch ,They have dirt bike ridding, skate board course and a cable pulled water ski trolley that pulls you around a large reviver circle track on water skies ,the kids will love this place.
