MP3 SETUP
« on: April 10, 2007, 12:51:59 PM »

How are you guys set up with your MP3 players?

I was debating whether I should try to set up my MP3 inside my helmet somehow, or continue putting it in my pocket and running the earphones to my ears.

I am worried about the chord running up.  Sometimes it irritates me or limits my head turning when trying to look behind me when changing lanes.

I can't really spend big money on a helmet with the speakers built in, but just wondering if you guys have thought of anything.  There is alot of ingenuity on this site and I wanted to use some of it.

Thank you,

Run mine through my tank bag.  it has a spot for the wire to run through, so I bring just enough out for full head turns.  works nice for me and I wear a full face helmet.

Wal-Mart sells some earphones that wrap around the ear kinda like glasses and fit right into the ear. They work well for me and I also wear a fullface.

if your mp3 player has bluetooth, you can also get ear phones like that with no cords...  may end up costing just as much as getting speakers in the helmet though.  i just use regular ear buds.  they work fine with the helmet on, ears get a little irratated during long rides though.  but, without a helmet the work good till about 75-80mph then i can just hear the music and not make out the words.  at about 90 they tend to be pulled out by wind  :-\

Best earphones I've found to use in the helmet are the sony earbuds that go in the ear rather than outside.

They block the outside noise excellently. They are a little more pricey than regular earbuds, but the regular ones always get uncomfortable or want to pull out of your ear too easily...these don't.

If your MP3 has a radio in it... you want to keep the radio as far away as possible, as the earplug cord is the antenna, and it needs to be stretched out for best reception. I think if you were close to the stations, this wouldn't make as much difference, but if you live in the boondocks like me, I keep the mp3 in a camera bag snapped around my handlebars. That keeps the cord stretched out. This keeps the cord from hanging around your neck when turning your head, as it does if you have it mounted on your body

I use a SanDisk e200 mounted on handlebars via a Ram Mount System. Ram Mounts make a wide varity of holders for Motorcycles. I also use Shure Earphones EM2c's these are the best $100.00 earphones I Have ever used. They block out a lot of the noise, however you can still hear ok. They fit inside the ear and work well with a helment.
