Hard Shifting
« on: May 17, 2007, 11:35:50 AM »

I have a new 06 VTX 1800 C and lately it has started clanking really hard when shifting up or down. I dont think its normal although my 04 1300 R did the same thing but not near as hard. Any ideas how to quiet this down. Its so loud I can hear it over the pipes (V&H Big Shots) so its pretty loud when shifting.

How is your oil?
I ran a heavy oil and mine stoped making the nasty sounds.

Yep, mine stopped clanking so loudly when I started using Mobil 1.

My oil level shows good but then again it is the stock oil still. I wasnt sure if it had something to do with the oil or the linkages. I had a mechanic tell me it was normal but I cant see how it could be.

you're due for the first service, anyway. you could just have the dealer do the swap, then do your own switch to synthetic at 1000 or 1500 miles.

He said he's on an 1800--there's no 600 mile service required by Honda. Check for air in the clutch system.

Thanks Hipshot I never thought about air in the clutch but it makes perfect sense being hydraulic
