Damn dogs
« on: February 17, 2007, 07:28:49 PM »

I own three dogs, one inside dog who is the Queen of the house, and a very vindictive Buck Rogers. If I roll over and kick her out of bed, she leaves a reminder where I'm most likely to step bare foot first thing in the morning,  I try not to kick her out of bed, but it still happens. She is a dash hound- weinner dog. the other two are males, outside dogs, they live in a chain link fence with a hot wire on the inside, The blood hound thinks that the hot wire is his personal toy. he barks at it, paws at it, gets hit, Does the blood hound howl, then starts over until he breaks the wire. Then the mutt dog starts digging until they are both out of the pen. I feel like  Cornell Clink.

If not for the wife and kids !! Na, not happening, When I get a dog its till death do us part. The blood hound  would be like shooting a big slobbering clown. The little dog is not allowed in the bed, so much for being the  King of my castle.

tom cat; dachsrodents are manipulators. They are born to "work" people. Dachsrodents are the only breed of dog I have encountered that eye contact doesn't work with. Thor (one of my Rottenweilers) weighed 185 lbs. He didn't have an ounce of fat on him. I could cow him with unbroken eye contact. Lucy ( my female Rottenweiler) was the same way. Ripley, the miniature dachsrodent that Marigold brought home, is totally unaffected by eye contact. She actually stares Marigold and me into submission, especially when she puffs out the upper left lip while intently glaring at us. You're doomed, brother..........................

They have got out two times since the new hot wire fence went up, once the West Texas breeze blew the Igloo dog house on to the wire shorting it out. The next time the neighbors were playing on the trampoline in their front yard. The big dog took the hit to bust lose. He swats at the wire with his paw, until he breaks it or jerks it from the insulators. He gets hit but he just don't mind.

Maybe you can try the invisible fencing plus the hot wire. The one you where you use a dog collar. That may make a difference.

The dash rodent is the inside dog. she is vindictive, but she is worth it, she is not only the head of security around here. When the kids are playing in the back yard, she finds any tatas anywhere around. she is fearless and will jump on what ever comes along.with one exception, Jack rabbits. she learned that lesson the hard way. she caught one. Now she acts all bad Cranberries, and barks, but if the Jack rabbit won't run she just stands her ground and barks. The two big dogs are in a pen next to the house. I have no doubt their life would be better if I could let them out more often. I truly am a fan of the man who said if you can't spend 15 minutes out of your busy day with the dog, you don't need, or deserve that dog. I am guilty of falling short of that. The big dogs can't play in the back yard with the kids yet, the kids are too small. They love the dogs but they would get hurt. The blood hound is a big, slobbering, happy, life support system for a nose, I learned the hard way not to ever let him out of his pen unless he is wearing a harness, not a collier. We had a lot of thieving going on here until, l I got the blood hound. Now not a car comes near my house or neighborhood without a loud welcome. I had a bike stolen shortly before I got him. My dogs are a pain in the Cranberries, but each earns its keep in one way or another. The middle dog keeps the big dog company.
