signal light stays on
« on: February 18, 2007, 07:01:24 PM »

Hi guys.  I replaced my stock bulbs and lenses with amber and smoke today (they came off of an 1800, I'm a 1300).  Got them in and the left side of the bike works fine.  But the right, both front and rear, the signal light stays on.  The blinker part works fine, but the bulb itself stays on.  I know nothing of electrical stuff... any ideas?

The only thing I did was take off the stock lenses, twisted out the stock bulbs, twisted in the amber bulbs, and snapped on the smoke lenses.  Everything was working fine before, so I obviously screwed something up, just don't know what.

It's probably got something to do with the lunar phase; nothing you can do about that but learn to live with it. But just to defy the odds, see if you put a 1157 bulb in the rear and a 1156 bulb in the front.

Want to make sure that the Bulb is in right. Sometimes it may seem that is went in the right way but the connections on the end of the bulb don't make the right contact to the posts inside the light housing! Meaning bulb will sotra work but not right.  ::)

I'd say do that to the other side too.  The brighter the better.  O0

Thanks!  I'll give it another try.  Where's the "blonde" icon face?

Check and see if you didn't get the front and rear bulbs reversed...if you put a rear bulb (1156 I believe) in the front socket that requires a 1157, it will make the rear light stay on as a running light like the front blinker is, will make the indicator light stay on, and the light will "seem" brighter than normal, even though they're not. It sounds like that's your problem, unless you crossed the two wires together to the front blinker, which would be electrically the same thing.
Jim, sounds like you've seen it before too! I first saw it on VTXOA and ran mine that way for a while. The rear lights as running lights are really visible...but possibly not legal since the rear t/s  is yellow.

Ok, looks like I just had the bulbs in the wrong spots.  Next question!  Are the front signals supposed to stay on as running lights or are the rear?  I've never paid attention before!  I think it's the front...

Depending on the wind and how I feel tomorrow (think I'm gonna have to talk to the doc about my blood sugar levels or something), I just might since it's right down the road.  We were out running some errands today and saw all of four bikes between here and Denton.  Freakin' crazy Cranberries wind!  I think visibility in Denton was about 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile.
