If you want to do site seeing I would definitely do 5-6 days.  4 days doesn't really leave much room for messing around.  Between gas stops, traffic, weather and whatever else you may want those extra days.  It's possible, but the point of a vacation is to enjoy it. O0

When in May?  I've been thinking to doing Rolling Thunder in DC over Memorial Day.  May 27 in DC.  Gazillion bikes revving up on the Mall.  Heros everywhere.

If I'm by myself it's not uncommon for me to do 800 miles in a day. With a group it's usually around 400. I'm riding to the Arctic Circle in June and my first day's travel will be 886 miles, Grand Prairie, TX to Cheyenne, WY. Next day will be from Cheyenne to Lethbridge, approximately 858 miles. And so on...

With a group, you have all the variables that inevitably slow you down... I like the companionship, but over about six bikes in size, your group time will become increasingly longer.

HOLY COW!!!!

Just so you know, I won't be joining this trip.  I have to grow up a little before I do one of those rides.  I haven't actually been able to take a good trip yet, so I know my butts not ready for those kind of miles in one day.  I haven't done more than about 300 in a day yet.

I'm looking to take one this year and see what I can do, but I haven't decided where yet.  Maybe Blue Ridge Parkway.
