Painting
« on: January 13, 2009, 06:07:51 AM »

I use to have some VTX aluminum emblems epoxied to my side covers. One fell off somewhere in Texas so I removed the other and ordered some color-rite paint to match my bike. My first attempt was so so but I wasn't happy with it. So last weekend I sanded them lightly and applied more color to get rid of the blochy look. Bondo was causing the blochy look. I added more color...ran out of color but it was good enough. I started the clear coat. I had done about 5 coats and they were looking good. I brought them inside and set them on a box about 4 feet from the door.
Yesterday morning, I decided that I could shoot them one more time and call it good. I did. Well, I was putting stuff in my truck and getting ready to leave for work. When I came back in, I noticed that my last coat of clear had partially turned all wrinkly.
The only thing I can figure happened was that when I opened the door the 30 something degree air hit the fresh clear and caused the wrinkle.
Anyone ever experience this?
The only way to fix it (that i can think of) is to sand the clear coat and start over. I'm scared to sand it because I am out of color and if I get too deep I'm out another $100 to order another kit.  :banghead: :violin:

You can get CHROME ones for about $107.96

Dusty,
I have a set of black metallic (very light) that I replaced with chrome if you are interested.

enamel paint has tack time of like an hour or so, if you go past that, then add another coat it can cause a wrinkle effect. learned that one the hard way.

I see you got the pic to work, so why does it have the old fender instead of the new one?
