cool, thanks. I'm gonna call a couple places. There's also a place in Shiner that has some reasonable prices on material.

First place I would try is Rose Steel. They are a used supplier. They sell "drops", or leftovers. They may have just what you need on the cheap. Otherwise, you are gonna have to buy a full stick, and you don't wanna know what that stuff costs. :o :o :o :o :o . Check ebay as well. I have found several small "drops" for very little money on ebay.

Makin' some sliders?

I found this little blurb...

"Nylatron GSM, MD, GSMK or PA 66 has many of the same qualities of Delrin and are more available and cost less."

Maybe check into some of those products as well?

well. I'm using it to make frame sliders for my ducati. I can't think of anything off hand that it would be used for on the VTX.

yeah. i didn't read your post. I found a place that sells delrin for $21/ft. not bad, unless I gotta buy 8 ft, but it let me add 2 ft to the cart for checkout, so we'll see. I'll call you when I get back home after x-mas. Too much junk going on at school right now.

you can also use UHMW (ultra high molecular weight polyethelene) its cheaper and you can find it in more places. its usually white in color.

The frame slider is the sportbike equivalent of the engine guard. If you lay a sport bike down, the frame slider is there to keep you from shattering the fairing.

Gold star for steve... or with the monster, it's there to protect the ridiculously-expensive-to-replace tank, as there is no fairing.

I also gotta find stainless bar stock (10mm, I think) that I can get threaded at both ends.... and not threaded rod. that's what's gonna make this project cost go up...

Anybody want a VTX for $5300?

This is something I ran across before this thread got started. I knew I had heard the term slider before but just now put the two together.

http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/howto/motorcycle_cheap_tweaks/

Tweak #6: Frame sliders
Cost: $50-$100
Benefit: Protect your plastic in the event of a tip-over

Conventional wisdom says sportbikes are so expensive to insure because they are so gawd-awful fast. This statement is partially true, but outrageous premiums are more often related to the fact that sportbikes are so easily damaged. Even dropping your bike in the garage can easily result in thousands of dollars of busted plastic and scratched paint—and a big insurance claim. The best insurance against this is bolting on a set of frame sliders: small plastic or metal bumpers that bolt to the motorcycle frame and save expensive fairing bits—and levers, pegs, turn signals, mirrors, anything else that sticks out—from being fouled in a tip-over or crash. Plenty of colors, shapes and sizes are available (even some that light up!), and every last one is cheaper than even one piece of OEM plastic.

Up until now a slider was someone on the sci-fi channel.  ;D

hey, steve. I pm'd you. check out this link. I'd like to make two sets of mounts that have this same design. one big enough for the front of the frame and one for the passenger grab rails.
