Secondary Spring
« on: November 16, 2006, 06:06:41 PM »

Is the secondary spring on the kickstand strictly for the safety switch for the ignition?
Mine broke and I'm riding to Dallas in the morning.
So far I can't find that it does anything else other than I can't start my bike in gear any more. I have to put it in neutral now before it will start.

Thanks

Mine has been missing the smaller spring for years, and I can start it in gear. Check your clutch lever connections.

Did you pull my wires loose?  >:(

You nailed it Jim, that's exactly what it was.

And, you were right about my tire pressure when I left LSR. Ironically I kept looking for my tire guage or at least one of the three I thought I owned. Of course I have been riding every other day while I looked for my guage.
Saturday I finally put the bike on the jack and told myself it wasn't moving until I checked my air pressure. Made a trip to the store and bought me two new tire guages. I had 30 psi in both tires  :'(  NOT GOOD  :'(   Of course my air chuck had disappeared too so it was off to the store again. Anyway, my tires have really bad wear from me running them low for so long. I filled them both to 41psi again and rode up around Dam B yesterday. What a difference in the ride and steering. By the way, they still haven't filled that lake back up.

AND....I still don't know what that little spring does. Just something to rattle when it breaks I suppose.  >:(

Mine disappeared when the spring bolt broke several years ago; that was before the recall and Honda naturally refused to warranty it. I bought a 3/8" grade 8 bolt the proper length, split a washer and tacked it on for a spring stop, and drilled & tapped the bracket for the 3/8" bolt. Naturally, a year later I got a recall notice for the bolt. It took a lot of VTXs and Valkyries snapping the spring bolts before Honda would acknowledge the problem. Anyway, the secondary spring is not necessary.

It almost takes someone dying for Honda to admit they have an issue with their vehicles.
