Fuel Pressure Regulator

For those of you with 02 and 03 1800's that started experiencing bad gas milage all of a sudden, you may want to check the fuel pressure regulator.
I was told by the guy that dynoed my bike that he has started seeing quite a few vtxs coming in that had bad regulators. What happens is the diaphram in the regulator gets a tear/split in it.
The way to check it is to run the bike to operation temperature, turn it off and then pull the vacuum line off the Fuel Pressure Regulator. If vacumm line is wet inside (gas), you have a bad regulaor.

Mine was ok, but I'll be checking it from time to time.

+1?  I haven't noticed a drop in mileage but that is definitely something to stay on top of....

If you look on the left side of the engine between the jugs, you will see where the gas line coming from the tank hooks up. Well right on top of that piece and to the right just a hair you will see a little spaceship looking piece that has a 1/4 " vacuum line spicket that turns back towards the right side of the bike. That's the vacuum hose to remove and check for gas.

If this fisch comes out right it's item number 18. http://www.hdlparts.com/fiche_section_detail.asp

Ok I tried that link and it takes you to the fisch but to the beginning of the parts search. Go there and look up Throttle body and the part is number 18. Part number REGULATOR, PRESSURE
16740-MCH-013

If you have a service manual it's the bottom picture on page 5-60. I havn't traced that vacuum line out yet to see where it goes. Not sure if it dumps to the ground or what.
