RANT
« on: August 09, 2016, 07:31:35 AM »

 ??? :cuss: :banghead: :redcard:

I am so frustrated at the vision business!!!! The frames on my glasses broke on Saturday. Spent about 2 hrs checking to see if I could find a place with a set of frames that would fit my lenses, no go!! Spent another 3-4 hrs yesterday exploring my options and found out that, since my prescription was over a year old, no one would sell me a set of frames. I found a place that, if they had my new prescription in stock, could have them ready yesterday afternoon. I called the doctor's office that had my prescription but they weren't open so I went back home to look for the copy I got a few months ago, it was so close to what I previously had that the doctor said that I didn't have to get it filled at that time, but I couldn't find it. Most other places stated that it could take anywhere from 7-10 days to get them back.
So now I am having to find a ride to wherever I need to go because I can't drive without my glasses!!!!!!!

P.S.   That includes riding my bike!

Here in Houston, there are places that repair and refurbish glasses. I feel ya, I'm the same way always keep a spare set for that reason. Had to drive back home from Bolivar once w/o glasses after I dropped them in the bay. Real adventure. Then to add to your rant , Why do they cost $400 bucks ! No way they cost much to make.

it was something much like this a few years ago, that finally pushed me to get lasik.   After having to get 3 new pairs of glasses in a very short amount of time... and spending a lot of money on new frames/lenses, I got the surgery.   Don't regret it one bit!

Marigold used to pay $600 for her glasses; I was flabbergasted (actually, I was something else, but I can't say it here).  I get mine from Tom Waters Optical in Baton Rouge.  I fax them my prescription and they send me however many sets of spectacles I want.  They are cheap enough to order extras and spare frames, and they are very good at sending replacement parts (screws, pads, etc.) quickly.  If lightweight Pipeliner specs work for you, give them a try.  I have been using them for years.  If you are a slave to fashion, they aren't for you; they don't carry all the latest fad frames.  But if you want some lightweight, comfortable, functional specs, they are the folks to go to.

I buy the same frames every year , that way if the frames break , I have another pair of frames that the lenses can be changed

into .
