I added a PC3, borrowed a lap top and loaded a new map on mine. If I'm not mistaken the ability to richen or lean was there for the three stages. Idle, mid-range and full throttle. I don't understand all I should so I havn't experimented.

OK, I just found my PC3 instructions and it definantly explains how to lean the mix.
The model I got was the PC3 USB. Which I think the only difference is it comes with the adapter to power the PC3 with a 9volt battery and a USB connector for your computer.

Hopefully someone else will chime in that has a better understanding of how it all works. Mines not perfect yet but I'm not the one to be toying with it. I hope to get a Dyno someday.

Good Luck!

Bill is correct....  The PCIII has the ability to lean or richen the fuel mixture in three stages.  My suggestion is to get one and find a compatible map to start.  If that doesn't work, then you're off to a dyno.

PCIII USB - $269
Custom tune on the dyno - $200
Excellent running bike - Priceless

Yes the PCIII can add and remove fuel (richen or lean)

sorry i missed quoted the $500 bullet

 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

But you might can get away with buying the PCIII and using a downloaded map instead of a custom one. That will knock it back down to the $300 bullet   ;)

one more quick question is it just as beneficial to use a fuel processor over the pcIII

Well, the PCIII is a fuel processor.  I expect you mean, should you use a closed loop system (like HPP) vs the programmable system like the PCIII.

Pretty simple - a closed loop system that uses an O2 sensor is dynamic. It constantly adjusts.  However, historically the HPP could only lean out a bike, and the VTX needs to be richened as much as it needs to be leaned.  That's a limitation. However, I think the newest generation will also richen.

The PCIII allows more precision tuning but might need to be retuned when the bike setup is changed.  That's one reason some people use a downloaded map until they get the bike just like they want it.  The PCIII is a better unit overall with a better track record, but lots of people really like the HPP too.

It's easy to upload maps to the PCIII.  I ran a downloaded map for a long time, then finally had mine tuned.  I wouldn't go back now, the custom map changed the whole demeanor of my bike. It's a much more fluid power band and just runs better overall.

sorry i missed quoted the $500 bullet

I understand your frustration. I can't tell you the number of times I have wished I would have left the engine mods alone, and left my bike stock. In MY opinion there isn't enough performance gain are gas milage saved by doing the desmog and all. It seems to be an endless and expensive road to go down. But, I've already shelled it all out now, except for the dyno. The only thing I can honestly say it all did was get rid of the decell pop and that didn't go away until I remapped. But, I'm one of those wierdos that liked the sound of the decell pop.
This is a link to Bare's sight. http://www.bareasschoppers.com/  He has a ton of info and some maps as well that folks have sent him for different combinations of filters, pipes etc. He's good people and has contributed to VTX owners all over the USA. Including making and loaning specialty tools. He was hit really hard by Katrina and is still rebuilding his home, so if you finds some help on his sight and you can, make a donation. If he doesn't use it, he will make damn sure it will get to someone that really needs it.

Kevin, if you decide to go with the PCIII and need a laptop to program it, I usually haul mine around with me. We could do it at your place or mine or you could come up to the shop (it's closer to you). Admittedly, I'm still learning on these scooters but I been doing programming on Fords as long as they've been done and some of it should translate. O0 O0
