Luggage Rack Options
« on: September 18, 2006, 10:46:50 PM »

I have a 1300S, with a Honda Deluxe backrest/sissybar.  Need to add a luggage rack/carrier, and need your input and experience as to what options I have without spending a bunch.  All input appreciated.

I have the Honda Deluxe and I'm not sure why they named it that. It's not any bigger than any of the rest. Maybe because it's heavy duty. It serves the purpose but the problem I have with it and it is probably the same with all of them is the size of it. (especially the distance from the sissy bar to the back edge of the rack) Every bag I have sat on it is wider and tends to sag around the rack.  I was thinking this past weekend that it would be nice to have an extension that could be clipped on temporarily for trips to support the bags better in both directions.
I've seen a few lately that were made for or modified for quick install and removal.

Good Luck

Bill, cut a piece of 1/4" plywood, paint it black, add felt to the bottom so it won't scratch the rack, and put it between the bag and rack.

The stock luggage racks were way too short fo me to mount my Harley trunk box on, so I bought a luggage rack for the shadow 1100. It is about four inches longer, and about two inches wider. They offer two luggage racks, the flat, square tube one is excellent for mounting stuff on, and only about 90.00.
