I'm sure you will get much better suggestions, but I use old MP3 player with foam ear buds, works as good as I need them to work.

What he said!  but in all seriousness, I guess it depends on what you want.  If you don't mind earbuds in your ear using an mp3, it works and cuts out the wind plus any cars that may honk at you or some sounds to help avoid other unwanted situations.   Cycle sounds makes a a good handlebar mount speaker system you can hook up your mp3 player.  On my old VTX, i ended installing a fairing to primary get tunes with a 4 speaker set up, that worked pretty good, and now I just have a Road Glide that has the fairing mounted speaker and radio with controls on the bars.

Do a web search for the LG HBS-700 Bluetooth headset.
Assuming you have a smartphone that is Bluetooth capable, the LG headset is the way to go.

It has a horseshoe shaped neck piece with short wires that go to ear buds.  The neck piece houses the battery and audio/phone controls.  It charges via micro-usb cable and will play music nonstop for about 10 hours. The neck piece just rests on your shoulders.  You hardly know it's there, and you can tuck it under your shirt collar to protect it from the elements.

It is plenty loud to hear your music clearly at highway speeds, and muffles wind and exhaust noise.

I cannot take credit for this one.  Cybrhick turned me onto the LG headset last year, and I have been very pleased with it since.  Keep an eye out on Amazon and NewEgg because they go on sale all the time.  You should be able to pick one up for $40~$50.

If you go this route (and have an Android phone,) download a free app called BT Reader. If you are riding and receive a text message, BT Reader will mute your music, announce the sender, and read your incoming message.  When I am riding, if my wife needs to get in touch with me, she will text instead of call.  Unfortunately, the phone feature doesn't work well for me while I'm riding...my exhaust is pretty loud.

If I am in my truck (or walking around), the phone feature works very well. Most people have no idea I'm using a Bluetooth device.

I doubt you will be disappointed with this headset.

I bought two bullet water proof speakers and a 100 amp from Shark speakers for 52.00 for the set. The speakers mounted on the mirror studs and the amp mounted on the handel bars then all I have to do is hook my MP3 player into it with the cord that comes with it. Sounds great but if I had to do it again I think I would of gotten either the 150 amp or the 200 as head winds do make some songs hard to hear. Main complaint I have is the volume control is hard to work with gloves on. Other than that I love the system not too bulky but great clear sound.

Unique cycle sounds. They mount on the handle bars and sound great. (even at highway speeds)

Scalia rider G4 with a Bluetooth mp3 player works great the loudness goes up or down whatever the outside noise is at that time. The in helmet speakers sound pretty good better than ear buds on a long trip.

I have the same as Randy, we both have UniQcycle sounds.  They are out of Colorado and have great customer service.  I have the 150w amp down in the bike's tool box, just ran the speaker & power wires thru a hole that I cut in the top of the box.  I then RTV siliconed the hole.  I have had no issues and they have been on the bike for 4 years.

Have the same speakers! Have them hooked up to a radio in the saddlebags with a MP3 hook up.
Sound is good at 80mph.  ;D

he is correct I ride around on average at 75-80mph on the hwy and it's still to loud on full blast. I can hear it clearly over 110mph.
I also have a Scalia rider 9 I use when I wear my helmet. Its great really loud and I can make and receive phone calls with it. both setups cost about the same $300 ish
