Great idea from another board.
« on: May 31, 2012, 07:26:57 PM »

So I saw this mod that a guy did on another board.  I figured I'd give a shot using painters tape and fine sand paper.  This is what I came up with.

Thanks for the input guys.  I'm probably gonna add to it today, just didn't have the patience yesterday.  I'll post the updates.

Okay, so how's it done. I understand masking tape and I understand sand paper, but I don't see how they go together.

So what I did was, lay out the painters tape two sheets thick.  Then I drew the design on the tape, then cut the spots out that I wanted to show on the cover with a razor blade.  Then I put the tape on the cover how I wanted it and taped off the rest of the cover.  Then I sanded over the whole design (tape and all) in one direction until I got the look I wanted.  Peel the tape off and cleaned and polished it and your done.

Must mean you used some mighty fine sand paper not to sand through the masking tape as well as a soft touch. Looks good too.

Thanks, I appreciate it.  I used a very fine sanding sponge.  Once I started to sand away the top layer of tape, I knew I was finished.
