Relay, turn signal issue
« on: August 16, 2011, 11:22:04 AM »

2003 VTX 1800c, my left side turn signal is blinking okay, but my right ones are not. Seems that if I switch over the wiring where the breakout points are, the left ones are not. Also, I notice the relay switch (38301-KK9-952) is not clicking for the (case #1 above right signal, or case #2 above the left signal), thus I believe there is a short or outrage in this part. HDL and many other online or MC shops wants $40-50.. :o
I believe there's got2B a better and cheaper solution to this. Maybe replacing it with a turning relay for auto? I believe these are only $5-10.
Has anyone done or seen this? I mean $50 for a stupid relay  :cuss:..
thanks,

fyi this part (under wiring harness part selection) seems to be in a lot of different honda/kaw/suz bikes, so why the high price?

I have had this problem before and wasn't the relay!
The bulb has to be in the socket just right or won't send a current through.
I had to turn the blinker on and put the bulb in to test to make sure it was in right.
Just try doing this before you go and spend the $ on a new relay.

Same thing happened to me, but it was the dealer that inserted the bulb wrong.  :banghead:

well well well... if you dig deep enuff you will get the bottom of it  :ohwow:

It seems my mod of putting on front mini kury turning lights had a snapfu to them.  :hurl: The wire for those suckers goes inside their connecting support bracket and then soldered to the light fixture. The problem was inside the support bracket there are metal "BURRS" which scrapped the wires as time went by and finally shorted them out, it is on the same relay fuse as the speedometer, thus bam oh, a road bump would short the fuse out everytime. A few things to fix, ream out the burrs, put more rubber shielding around the wires for that area, and put in rubber pad (aka cut up a bicycle inner tube) and shield the inners of the kury light fixture. for the amount of money for those Kury you would think they would be more electrical shielded and proof for its internal wiring, but they aren't!! Dam Japs!  :cuss:
