in beautiful Karnes City.
http://www.texasreconn.com/propview.php?view=608743On a recent ride to the coast, I stopped the group and pointed out this ranch. If this house isn't the largest south of San Antonio, it has to be in the top 3!
It was built by the owner of the now defunct
Velladie Ranch (?the spelling) He started a resturant/steak house of the same name. Two steps up from
Texas Roadhouse, and a step lower than
Morton's. They served Angus beef that was raised on this ranch. The resturant was very nice, and the prices were inline, but I can only assume that the cost of putting together an operation like this was too much to bear. Maybe the influx of "new money" spent unwisely, contributed to the failure. Who needs 11 bedrooms? Put the guests up in a hotel, it's cheaper.
It's located on Hwy181, just west of Karnes City, if you're ever down that way. Anyway, I'd consider this as a piece of 21st century Texas history.
