Tech Session - Forks and Water Pump
« on: September 17, 2010, 12:07:20 PM »

Hi Gang,

I am in need of a little help.  I have a leaky fork seal and need to change the fork oil.  I figured that I would go ahead and change both seals at the same time.  I also have a leaky water pump.  The water pump does not look that hard to do but the recharging of the coolant and purging the cooling system looks like more than a one man job.  I am also a little reluctant to tackle the forks the first time by myself.

So, I would like a little help and I would be happy to host a tech session at my place for these jobs and any others that might need to be done.  I have the following two Saturdays open: September 25th and October 9th.  Whichever Saturday someone that can help me can come will be the Saturday that we do this.  I will have cold beverages and something for lunch for those that make it.

I have a jack and a stand and I think all the tools I need.  I think I might need a special tool for the forks though.  Maybe some on this list has one that I can borrow.  Maybe even come to the tech session.  ;D  Anyway, post up here if you can help me with this and which weekend would be good for you.

Regards,

David

Hey David, where are you located and what time do you plan on doing this?  I don't know how much help I can be but I can turn a wrench with the best of them. Hosting these tech sessions is a great idea tackling a different job once a month would be awsome.

On the valve job you need to drop off your bike the night before, the bike needs to be cold for any adjustment.

When exactly will the session take place Oct 8th I will be heading to Boo Rally.

I have not heard from anyone that knows forks that they can be here on either weekend.  In fact, I have only heard from two people that say they might be coming.  I am still willing to host this but I really would like an expert or someone who has at least done this ones or twice.

Both weekends are still open but I know a number of folks are going to the Boo Rally.

I have room for two bikes on Friday if there are value jobs that need to be done.  I however, do not have the tools needed to do this.  Maybe someone with the tools can make a commitment to be here on one of the two weekends.

I hope to hear from folks today and I will post up location and times later today or tomorrow.

OK, I have only heard from two folks on this session.  Neither of them have said they know about forks.  So, I am going to be doing this from the manual.  Wish me luck.  :)  I sure hope that I do not need any special tools for this.

If anyone wants to drop by and give me a hand or provide moral support, please feel free to do so.  Here is a link to my house: http://tinyurl.com/2d5cmcs.

I do not have the tools needed to do a value adjustment so that will need to be done at another session.  I do have what is needed for most fluid maintenance.  Anytime after 9:00 am will be cool.
