Starting issue need some help
« on: September 05, 2010, 05:05:03 PM »

I have a 2004 1300C. No real issues ever until last night. Started fine road for 30 mins and parked it for 3 hours. Restarted fine stopped for fuel within 15 mins and when I went to restart it clicked but wouldn't turn over. I checked kickstand clutch etc. turned key back on and it hesitated but finally started. Rode another 20 mins, no visible issues with lights blinkers or console. Pulled in to the garage, killed the engine, tried to restart and it wouln't turn over. Battery has full charge all connections appear good. Starter solenoid (assumed) had some corrosion on molded connector, so I cleaned and reinstalled. No improvement. First try when turning on key lights and all work. If i try to start everything goes black and there is a click at the solenoid. If I turn the key off and on again the console sporadically goes crazy then fades out....Any suggestions or a direction to start looking...Thanks for the help!

Quick and easy starting point would be the switch (starter button) just take a visual picture on how it goes back together.
Can't hurt and might be the ticket  ???

I have had one do that to me before. Work good and then sound like it was struggling to turn the engine over. Had a bad cell in it! Wasn't 100% sure it was that but had Walmart test the battery for me.

LoneStar, I had the exact same problem. It is the starter. Here are the instructions on how to fix.

Odds are it's either your battery or your starter switch. Oxidized or arc-burned contacts in the switch or the relay (solenoid) could cause your problem. The Honda starter switch is not exactly a miracle of modern technology. Disassemble and clean your starter switch (and use a little dielectric grease when you reassemble it), and the next step is load testing the battery. You might also consider an issue I had a few years back; the stop on the starter button had worn to the point that the contacts were sliding too far; now I just make sure I don't push the button all the way to the stop. Whatever's causing it will be a simple fix.

Great info, going to have the battery tested, probably going to get a new one anyway, since it's original. Then the switch cause Murphy and I go way back and anything that can go wrong?!?
Thanks y'all!
