Flat Tire
« on: September 03, 2010, 07:56:41 PM »

Went out to check my bike and was going to fuel up for the Ponder run tomorrow. Rear tire was completely flat. Jacked up the bike and it has a small nail in the center. My question is do you think it would be safe to plug it temporarily to at least make the run tomorrow? And for a few days till I can get a tire next weekend. I would really like to make a meet, but something always happens. I am beginning to think I am not supposed to meet you guys. lol

Plugged tires are good for getting you from where you are in a emergency situation to where your going! Get it patched internally or a new tire, which ever you can or have to do at the moment. Plugs will get you hurt!  Just mt $.02

A lot depends on where the leak is; if it's in the thick part of the tread you are safer than putting a plug in a thin part of the tire between the treads. NEVER plug the sidewall.

The advice I got from Discount Motorcycle Tire was you can plug anything that's FARTHER than your thumb width from the sidewall. Anything closer than that gets too much motion and will not seal.

If your leak fits this, plug it and go for the ride.

I don't care what other people think. They don't do it very often!
Of Course it's dirty. It's hard to clean when the tires keep moving.
