Steve the stray steer
« on: August 25, 2010, 08:51:34 AM »

Steve is the latest stray steer to wind up in my yard. He is currently eating the grass out by the driveway. He first showed up about a month ago, a week or so earlier I had 5 stray cattle in my yard. Randall county sheriffs department rounded them up, and the owner picked them up after a few days. Steve mostly stays in a neighbors pasture but the fence is for horses and Steve goes in and out at will. I have called the sheriff's office on Steve when he goes out on the railroad tracks. He has been lucky so far.
Where I was raised, finding a stray just means someone needs to fix fence. Its not a big deal to me but I wonder who in my neighborhood could be missing a steer and not make any effort to get it back. I don't mind the fact that he fights with the cat, or that he shits in my yard, but his fight with my barbq grill has caused some damage. I understand his animosity toward it but if he continues to be a pain in the Cranberries he just may end up on the grill.

I thought Steve was gone, I didn't see him all day yesterday. This morning the drama went up a notch when I let Annabell my sons cow dog out to do her business. She returned after having a good roll in fresh cow AppleSauce. My daughter in law is so pleased.
Steve returned this morning with three of his homies, they are gangsta cows. My neighbor was petting Steve when the sheriff showed up Steve don't like cops.
Having spent way too much time and effort trying to keep my own cattle in a pasture I know how hard it can be. Problem is hitting a cow can ruin your day.
It may be time for a big BBQ, time to fire up the old kill & grill.
Gumbo waited too long to make the ride up this way. The property that had the miniature donkeys is for sale, and they are gone. The mini cows and the lama are also gone, but we now have free range beef.

This afternoon we had another roundup in my yard. The homies are all back where they belong. Steve on the other hand remains at large. I was not home when the roundup happened so I don't know how he slipped the noose but he is back in the yard again.
