Got a noise!
« on: July 22, 2010, 01:55:56 PM »

I need the expert advice from the great people of this forum, help!!!   For the last few weeks, probably about 5-6 or so, I have been hearing this noise coming from under the bike when I ride.  The bike is fine at the beginning of the ride, but after it is plenty warmed up, is when the sound/noise starts.  It mainly occurs when I hit a hard bump in the road.  The only way I can describe it is a dull sneezing, coughing noise.  Swooshing sound.  Last Saturday on a ride, I was cornering a 40mph curve and the noise happened along with the bike cutting out for a moment or two....missing, losing power.  I have checked everything that I can think of, but can't find anything loose, unhooked or off.  :banghead:  Could it be the exhaust gasket?  Can someone give me some idea what to look at that I haven't.  Gumbo is coming over to see if he can figure it out, but wanted me to post this on the board for more opinions, help.

Thanks...guys!

Things that come to mind are, since this started after your last valve job, I am thinking vacuum line pinched some where, the little thingie on the air box that you need to drain occasionally, maybe plug wire not having a good connection since it might have been removed during the valve job.
The interesting part is it happens after hitting a hard bump, (try to avoid hitting bumps) and don't go around curves only ride on straight roads.  ;D ;D
I'd have to actually hear it and feel it to get a better idea.  ??? ???

If there is no fever, try two bottles of Benadryl in the tank.  Call a Mechanic in the morning.

Yeah, that is SOOOO bad!   :redcard: :couch:

Sorry to the cyberjack!
