Hard Tail
« on: March 31, 2010, 09:36:40 AM »

I've seen a couple of pics online of VTXs using struts to lower the bikes and removing the shock, thus turning it into a hard tail.

I'm looking into doing this.  If anyone has ridden a hard tail, how do they ride.  Is it really that different?

How far can I lower the VTX without binding the shaft?

A hard tail sucks if you are going to ride any distance at all. I think you can lower the X all the way to an 8" bar. so I think that 4,3/4"
If you are just bar hopping or running 1/4 mile I am sure a hard tail would be ok. But without at least a springer seat you are asking to be in pain.

Most of the time, I ride 22 miles to work, and 22 miles home.

I've never taken a long trip.  Probably won't until the kids get grown and I get wing for me and the wife.

Hard tails look cool I can't say why. they just do. Having put more miles on them than I ever wanted to. I can honestly say that I have no desire to ever ride one again. Its hard to look cool when you are all beat up after a 75 mile ride.

buy a good kidney belt or they'll end up in your boots. Hard tail looks cool if you replace the the entire swing arm asembly with a hard tail rearend but looks dumb if you just replace the shocks with steel struts IMO. you also need to kickout and extend the frontend tolook right also MHO.

THAT was hilarious. I almost felt it. Now I'll be needing another keyboard. Mine got soaked.
