3 day ride from Houston?
« on: March 02, 2010, 08:44:44 AM »

So if the weather plays nice this weekend, I was thinking about doing a Fri, Sat, Sun ride out from Houston and back. I have been doing some research about where to go w/out killing myself in the process. Then I thought, why the hell not ask my fellow X riders for some ideas. Anybody got any good routes for a 3 day trip? I thought about the sisters, but the weather as of right now looks kind of dicey Sat/Sun in that direction. Of course we all know things can change in Texas if you wait 5 miutes.....  :banghead: either good or bad any direction. I'd be willing to check out East Texas maybe.. hell I don't know. Any help or resources would sure be appreciated! Oh yeah, checked out motorcycleroads.com, some good ideas there. Maybe somebody would wanna come along.....

Do you like Civil War stuff?  Try Vicksburg, MS.  Very good battleground stuff.  Lot of monuments.  Good road trough the Park.  Gambling on the boats at night.  Multiple back roads to/from there to choose from.  May want to consider hitting Natchez first night then the Blues Hwy (Hwy 61) to Vicksburg.  Just some thoughts.

There are some gorgeous rides going into NE Texas.  Go up thru the SamHouston Nat'l Forest, then the Davy Crockett Nat'l Forest; there is also the Angleina Nat'l Forest.  Head up towards the Rusk/Palestine area... and then keep on going and stop to eat at Maw Maws in Whitehouse.  There are several Xers in that area that can give you more specifics and probably even hitch along for awhile too.  Have fun.

Alejandro1800vtx is one of those who can tell you about E Tex rides, he is looking to go this weekend, give him a shout.
He posted a really good route a few weeks back -- I have ridden most of the roads out that way and there are some real good ones. :bikerider:

Look at FM 4 up from Cleburne, thru Granbury and on up to Jacksboro.  This route was in Ride Texas or one of the other mags and is supposed to be a good one.

http://www.motorcycleroads.us/roads/tx_fm4.html

Return thru Mineral Wells, Weatherford, Glen Rose and on down to 6 back to Houston

And that's the reason I'm staying HOME next time. Houston had NO business evacuating. There were some low lying areas that needed to get out. But not everyone. Thank you, Mayor Bill White. Let's NOT put this idiot in the governors mansion.

Of Course it's dirty. It's hard to clean when the tires keep moving.
