What's whistling?
« on: March 12, 2010, 12:47:51 PM »

Rode the X into work for the first time in a while and as I accelerate I hear what sounds like a soft higher pitched whistle or screech. Kind of like when a car's belt is loose but nearly as loud. It only happens when the bike is in gear and I'm on the throttle riding down the road. I couldn't get the bike to make that sound when I was in neutral and had my ear to the engine reving it.

I know my fluids are fine.
I noticed my air intake is a little loose as I can move it slightly by hand. Need to tighten that up.
The radiator fan is electric, right? No belt there, is there? Haven't looked.

Anyone have experience with something like this?

Yes you can get a noise from a loose intake.

It's either an exhaust leak at the port, a loose fitting intake that's letting air seep by or a cracked/broke/split vacuum line.

I'd check the exhaust and air intake first.

Easy fix.  Just tell the Buck Rogers riding with you to SHUT THE TarterSauce UP!!    :boxing: >:D

Try gently squeezing you front brake and see if the noise changes.  :idontknow:
